Kyiv based brand Syndicate and Ukrainian artist Oles Derega team up to create a fiery line of apparel to set the streets ablaze, aptly dubbed "Weapons of Mass Creation". This sizzling clothing collection is stacked with oversize t-shirts and voluminous shirts sporting Oles' original artwork and signature phrase.
"In the face of the destruction we are presented with daily, I believe it is essential to create something entirely new: culture, art, and more. In response to these weapons of mass destruction, I propose something different – 'Weapons of Mass Creation'. This creative approach is the polar opposite of what motivates our enemies and can propel us beyond destructive cycles", says Derega. Derega incorporates traditional heritage with a modern touch through his vibrant prints, tying the past and present together. By viewing commonplace items through this lens, he promotes an encouraging attitude towards life, inspiring individuals to recognize the value of their contribution to our ongoing history. His work consequently functions as a reminder of the potential of collective action in shaping a better future. "Realizing that the russians were intent on destroying Ukrainian culture, language, and identity, I had a newfound motivation to not only listen to, watch, and read stuff produced in Ukraine but to make a conscious effort to contribute to the growth of the modern Ukrainian culture by counteracting the oppressive russian imperialist noise. Furthermore, when I experienced the lasting effects of russian terrorism, I resolved to fight back by creating something new and fresh, no matter how difficult it may be", says Derega. The Syndicate and Oles Derega collaboration can be purchased both online and at the brand’s showroom.
